Semi-Automatic Folder Gluer Machine
The semi-automatic gluing machine is primarily used for large packaging boxes, corrugated boxes, and other cartons that cannot be glued by an automatic gluing machine. Its structure is simple, and the equipment is large, strong, reliable, and easy to use and debug. This machine is frequently used, capable of making almost all types of boxes. The working procedure includes automatic paper feeding, edge grinding, gluing, followed by belt feeding, manual folding and shaping, and finally shaping by an air pressure press on one side (with six stations on one side). Carton boxes made by this machine are visually appealing, sturdy at the seams, and use glue efficiently.
Automatic Folder Gluer Machine
There are usually three types of automatic carton gluing machines:
Ordinary Type Edge Paste Gluer
This type has the most basic functions, allowing for folding and edge pasting on both sides. It holds the highest market share and has the widest range of applications, serving as the most basic gluing equipment to replace manual gluing.
Pre-Folded Box Gluer (Four Sides)
Unlike ordinary and manual box gluers, which can only fold two sides while the other two are only indented, pre-folded cartons are easier to open and suitable for automatic loading and packaging machines. This type is especially used for pharmaceutical boxes.
Gluing Machine with Hook Bottom
This is the most complex equipment among all types of gluing machines and is the most challenging to debug. It includes the functions of the previous two types but can also fold and paste the bottom of the box. Boxes glued in this manner are particularly easy to open when in use, and the bottom is pre-glued, eliminating the need for manual insertion. This method, known as the "automatic bottom," is commonly used for high-grade boxes (such as cosmetics boxes). In foreign markets, over 50% of boxes use the hook bottom method, while domestically, less than 10% do, primarily due to the smaller size and higher cost of domestic hook bottom gluing equipment, leading most users to rely on traditional manual insertion.
Key Components of the Automatic Carton Folder Gluer Machine
The machine consists of six sections: Feeder, Crash Lock, Folder, Trombone, Conveyor, and Transverse Conveyor.




Feeder Section
Seven 25mm paper-feeding belts work in coordination with a vibration motor. The 10mm metal plates can be adjusted horizontally to set the width, while the embossing guide wheel directs the paper-feeding belts. Guard plates are provided on the right and left sides to adjust according to product patterns. The section is equipped with two delivery cutters that can adjust the asymmetric length based on actual needs. The power of the vibration motor can be adjusted according to the vibration rack, achieving overall coordination to ensure easy, fast, automatic, continuous, and accurate paper feeding. It is equipped with stepless transmission to regulate the paper-delivering distance.
Crash Lock Section
All gluing drums can be loaded and unloaded. There are two upper gluing drums (right and left) and two lower gluing drums (right and left), which can be selected based on actual needs. The glue quantity in the gluing drums is adjustable, ensuring stability and easy maintenance. The standard gluing roller thickness is 5mm and can be customized according to customer requirements. Made from copper, the gluing drum is firm and durable. The crash lock is completed by four groups of crash-locking mechanisms.
Folder Section
This section is composed of 30mm bottom belts and 50mm elbow belts. The right and left sides complete the 180-degree second crease and 180-degree fourth crease. Right and left guide wheels allow flexible adjustment of different positions to facilitate folding, while lower bearings enable the guide wheels to operate smoothly.
Trombone Section
The upper/lower drive mechanism adjusts the length and is equipped with an automatic belt tension-adjusting system. It features a continuous and automatic box collecting mechanism to ensure boxes enter the conveyor section neatly and well-aligned. An electronic counter and either automatic mark spraying or a kick plate can be selected for counting purposes. The section is also equipped with an air compressor system and a creasing channel system. Pressure rollers can be adjusted based on box types and paper types to achieve flawless box creasing.
Conveyor Section
This section adopts 700mm-wide, 5mm-thick flexible belts imported from Italy, eliminating the risk of damage to products. The entire conveyor section can move forward and backward, ensuring balanced pressure and neat conveying for flawless product quality. It automatically regulates speed via the host rotation speed in coordination with a photoelectric device, although speed can also be manually adjusted. Rubber rollers constitute a functional mechanism.
Transverse Conveyor Section
The belt speed can be adjusted depending on the packing speed.

The folding of the box-pasting machine is determined by the press trace of the paper box. If the press trace is too shallow or incorrect, the box pasting machine will not be able to fold the desired paper boxes. Therefore, it is essential to first check the paper box sample before using the equipment. Take a piece of paper and fold it lightly by hand, then press the edge tightly to check whether the press trace of the paper box is correct. Only paper boxes with qualified press traces can work normally on this equipment.
Paper Feeding Part
The paper feeding part is the foundation of box pasting and plays a crucial role in the entire box pasting procedure. Please pay close attention to it during testing. The paper feeding part consists of five paper feeding belts, a roll axle, two paper withstanding knives, two stainless steel back plates, and one photoelectric counting sensor.
The tightness of the belts can be adjusted using two end-tightening screws located under the front roll axle. There are two methods to move the belt:
First Method: Loosen the adjustable screws on both ends of the tensile bearing and then loosen the plate-tightening screw of the shift groove wheel, allowing the belt to move freely.
Second Method: Use a rotary method to move the belt manually or dynamically. When moving, close the front main machine using the triplex coupling air switch in the electric distributor, and switch off the frequency converter while opening. Please pay attention to safety; this method is suitable for small amplitude movements.
The positions of the two paper baffle knife rows have four requirements:
- They must withstand the hard face of the belt (the position of the roll axle under the belt).
- They should be as close as possible to the fold line without deviating from the position of the behind fold belt; otherwise, the paper sheet may slope.
- They must withstand the most front end of the paper sheet, which is easiest to touch the belt.
- The front and rear lengths of the paper withstood part should be the same; otherwise, it may cause the paper to slope due to uneven friction.
The low end of the paper baffle knife row and the interval of the belt are standardized based on the thickness of a sheet of paper. The driving force for moving the paper sheet is the friction between the belt and the lowest layer, making the contact surface of the paper box and belt very important. It is advisable to add more belts under the paper sheet. The tail part can be raised for large boxes and lowered for small boxes. The paper feeding part also includes a vibrator, which users can choose to activate. There are two photoelectric tubes on the sensor, which should be aligned with the side of the paste port.
Pasting Part
The paper feeding part continuously connects sheets as it feeds paper. The paper moves from the feeding part to the pasting part . Before entering the pasting part, ensure that the right and left moving rows are properly adjusted. Please refer to the folding part for adjustment instructions. The speeds of the belts in the pasting part and the paper feeding part differ.
The pasting part operates at a faster speed than the paper feeding part. When the paper sheet enters the pasting section, the side that enters first will receive the tensile force, causing the paper sheet to slope. Therefore, it is important to adjust the front and rear movements of the small wheels on the belt of the pasting part, ensuring both sides of the paper sheet enter simultaneously without sloping.
After correctly adjusting the box, shake the glue wheel to the proper position at the paste port. Press the front press wheel to ensure that the glue completely adheres to the paste port.
Folding Part
The paper box enters the folding part after pasting. This section mainly consists of four parts.
Two removable rows can be adjusted using a hand wheel according to the dimensions of the paper box. The width of the two adjusting belts should be 1-2 mm wider than the trace of the folded paper box edge. The widths of the folded knife rows should be 1-2 mm less than the folded trace of the paper box. The height between the fold knife and the belt should exceed the thickness of a sheet of paper. The fold knife rows (upper and lower, right and left) have adjustment parts fixed to the moving rows, so there is no need to adjust the knife rows for minor thickness variations.
The outer back wheel and the natural curve of the fold belt should align. Do not press too tightly, and avoid excessive bending while the paper box moves through the bending part. Adjust the belt with the back wheel to match the natural curve bend as per the press trace line of the paper box. After the paper box fully enters the folding tape, the two rear press wheels will press the sides of the box tightly to form it before entering the pressing part.
Pressing Part
The pressing part consists of four large wheels and one stroke protective switch. The four wheels primarily ensure that the pasted box does not rebound and help fold the paper box before sending it to the conveyor part. The stroke switch protects the paper box from damage; if any individual paper boxes jam, the jammed boxes will impact the stroke switch, causing the equipment to stop running immediately to prevent waste of normal paper boxes behind.
Conveying Part
The conveying part mainly consists of two wide belts and a row of rollers. There are hand wheels for pressure adjustment on the rollers (mounted separately on both sides of the removal frame), which primarily adjust the box pressure . The upper belt can move forward and backward with the frame, allowing adjustment for both long and short boxes. The conveying part presses the folded paper boxes in the middle of the belt and sends them to the collection part for pasting and bailing before leaving the factory.
Electric Part
The electric part consists of the controller, speed adjuster, and counter. The controller provides power to the speed adjuster and two motors. The speed of the two motors is controlled by a frequency converter, allowing the front, middle, and rear parts of the equipment to synchronize from zero speed to maximum speed, making operation very convenient.
